West Elm Geo Side Table

Flipping though the holiday West Elm catalog, the Geo Side Table caught my eye. It reminds me of the Eiffel Tower or something Buckminster Fuller would have designed.  I cannot tell if the top is polished of if there is a design to it. An engine turned top would look amazing on this.

Blu Dot Real Good Chair Experiment

Blu Dot is local and I have been following their designs pretty closely for the past 5-6 years. I like pretty much everything that they make. Including the Real Good chair. A red and a black have replaced some chairs at our dining room table. The experiment was to drop off the Real Good Chair on various street corners in New York City, GPS track the chair and then interview the people who picked up the chairs where they are using them. The 8 minute video is funny and pretty interesting and worth a watch.

Auction Watch- Wright 20 Important Design

Today was the Wright 20 "Important Design" auction featuring World Trade Center architectural drawings. There were tons of great objects for auction but here are a few more unique items that I think fit the Furnishim aesthethic.

The Scimitar chair by Preben Fabricius and Jorgen Kastolm, made out of stainless steel and leathe. Partners Fabricus and Kastolm are Danish designers working mainly in the 1960's this chair is one of their major designs along with the  FK 87 grasshopper. The chair had an estimate between $7-9000 and sold for $9375.

The slab of walnut is a great contrast to the delicate splayed legs of this coffee table, it can be both masculine and feminine. The design is of a time but could work anywhere. The brass accents put this table over the top for me. Designed by Ico and Luisa Parisi this table was right in the middle of the estimate and sold for $12.500.

The console version of this design also sold, but looks a bit disproportionate compared to the coffee table and has chromed brass accents instead of the unfinished brass.

Yes, it is a coat rack wrapped in leather. Not to be mistaken for any other kind of pole, the functioning part of the coat rack is ended in teak and rosewood balls. Designed by Osvaldo Borsani in the early 1960's this coat rack is over the top and would look great in my house.

People lament that things are not built as well as they used to be. Proof positive. Warren McArthur designed this stool in the 1930's for use. Judging by the wear on the top it was. A great no frills design.

Classics- Bertoia Wire Side Chair

When I think of furniture for men it is not overstuffed chairs and frilly pillows it is leather and metal.  If the metal is chrome then even better. The Eames Wire side chair by Herman Miller fits the bill perfectly. It is stylish and an absolute classic. You can even get it with a bikini cushion which covers the seat and the back and connects by a point in the middle. What man doesn't like a bikini! The Eame Wire side chair a Furnishim Classic

Vespa Chairs

I have a garage full of scooters so I need to comment on the Vespa chairs. I would much rather have these scooters made into chairs than have them crushed and recycled. Technically, they are not even Vespas, they are Motovespas, which are made in Spain under license from Vespa. Like the Bajaj and LML scooters.

I really don't expect to see this chair in production but it is a nice concept. For the untrained eye, the height adjustment is the rear brake pedal.
